Whenever a prominent awards ceremony approaches, there’s always an outcry for introducing fresh award types to recognize unsung work and satisfy the hearts of followers who have specialized interests.
My colleague made the case supporting a scary games classification. It would be amazing. The same goes for tabletop games, representing a dedicated supporter's campaign. But they will have to forgive me when I prioritize just as with other dedicated enthusiasts, I possess a compelling case supporting my request remains most pressing and important of all. This is the request: There should be a classification for brain-teasing titles.
The Genre Classification Challenge
Categorizing art by genre is not a science; it’s very subjective, and typically generate discussions concluding with vague boundaries. It's understandable that movie academies don’t do it. But it is an unavoidable compromise within the realm of gaming, that demonstrate such variety it's challenging to consider them a single creative category.
To recognize the complete range of interactive entertainment excellence to gain proper attention, while allowing diverse titles to compete fairly, genre categories are essential.
Current Gaming Award Categories
Prominent interactive entertainment events offer these award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Together, these award types successfully include numerous genres, and you can find room accommodating various experiences.
Different situation exists for puzzle games. There’s simply nowhere to accommodate them. Consider three of outstanding current releases, all very different: the architectural riddles in a particular game, the pulse-pounding block-matching from another release, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles from additional release. Which classification works within current classifications? Unfortunately, nowhere.
The Representation Problem
Many instances occur excellent brain-teasers launched regularly without proper recognition during gaming ceremonies, unless they happen to qualify for categories like Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging Indie races.
- An iconic brain-teaser received no recognition for anything that year
- Another creative title was excluded during that ceremony
- Popular arranging title was overlooked recently
- Only a few brain-teasers barely qualified for small studio or handheld classifications
Importance of Logic Titles
Commonly they're compact experiences, yet the craft of the puzzle game carries substantial weight. Famous handheld logic titles rank among the most-played games in the world and have been for many years.
The iconic tile-matching title challenges well-known building titles competing to become best-selling game of all time; it additionally competes as greatest title ever. Logic titles represent cornerstones to the art of video games, and engaging with diverse game types.
The Solution and Justification
Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter such difficulty. It would be easy to populate five nominees engaging, different, qualified experiences every year with ease — perhaps, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave so many good games out.
And to reiterate, these represent titles that otherwise have no home in important events. Puzzle game makers function at the demanding boundary game development, creating some of most fundamental forms of the video game form. Comparable to cinema stunt performers, they warrant appreciation. Let’s not keep them waiting decades.
